Start with what you own

A practical preseason gear check.

01Fit: try on boots, helmet, gloves, and outerwear. Young athletes can outgrow gear between seasons.
02Condition: inspect skis, bindings, poles, helmet, goggles, and clothing for damage or wear.
03Race needs: ask the coach which discipline, protection, and equipment standards apply this season before purchasing.
04Hill access: check the current practice message for any pass, lift ticket, or venue requirement.

Before you buy

Confirm the details that change.

Ask the coaches whether race-specific skis, protective gear, or a team-issued suit are needed this season. Confirm what the team may lend and which items are optional.

If buying or borrowing used gear, check fit and condition with a qualified ski shop or coach. Check current dates and offers directly with the swap organizer or shop.

Bring equipment questions to the coach early. A short conversation can prevent an expensive purchase that does not fit the athlete or current team guidance.

Before leaving

Pack for the actual event.

Confirm skis, boots, poles, helmet, goggles, gloves, layers, and any event-specific protective gear. Add water, food, and a dry layer as appropriate for the day’s plan. Check the invitation for passes, issued gear, or other race requirements.

Keep the latest TeamSnap message handy for changes in venue, weather, or arrival instructions.
